Animal Christmas Survey
What's Christmas to creatures -
pleasure or dread?
We asked a few locals,
and here's what they said:
I don't care a noodle,
offered a poodle.
I'm glad when it's over,
said his friend, Rover.
I'm off through the cat-flap,
shivered a cat.
No change, blew a fish in a bowl,
so that's that.
Usual old meal, usual old wheel,
muttered a hamster -
no big deal.
I'm stuck in a stable, of course,
said a horse.
I'm stuck in a cowshed,
the moo-cow said.
We're out in the snow -
Baa! didn't you know?
grumbled a sheep.
Do we like it? No.
We're jammed in a cage!
squawked a hen in a rage.
(We did ask some more
but they wouldn't engage.)
Consulted a turkey
but he became shirty
so we questioned a robin,
and he was more perky.
Christmas! he chirped,
with a flutter of glee.
Titbits galore!
It's a winner for me!
Just sit on a ledge
looking rosy and sweet,
and out pops a hand
with a luxury treat!
And so from our survey
we're able to say
that robins, at least,
enjoy the Big Day.
