Letter to Spring from Winter
Dear old friend,
Can’t fool me!
I know you're there.
I heard you deep inside
that peach-puff cloud
this afternoon.
Then
when my last ice-breath
wind-spun towards earth
yesterday—
I couldn't help but spot that
tiny blink of new snowdrop. . .
one of yours I think.
Haha spring!
And did I mention trees—
no longer
wind-stabbing skeletons
every branch now
soft-outlined
decorating the distance in
shadows of just-green.
Or
how about those
slow-sail scents
twining madcap loops
through rose-flowered sky
flush with slip-slide
rain-dots . . .
In fact there's lots more
I could talk about—
your dizzying insect-scuttles
colour-ruffles
sunbeam tangles
not to mention those
happy-go-lucky
warm wind-doodles!
However, I think it's quite clear,
spring,
that whatever I do
no matter how hard I try
you will outwit me
so . . . I might as well
just—
give in and welcome you!
Only please remember,
old friend,
you may have your
heady way
with earth now—
rushing melted snow into
giddy rivers and streams
flying pollen-pops helter-skelter
bursting blossoms
day and night
night and day
but tomorrow—
I will be back.
You see, truth is, spring,
there's no need to worry—
in a few months
I'll take over while you—
you spend some time alone.
Just imagine.
You can go curl up in the
far-away underneath of things
and dream your riotous
mind-boggling moments of
new beginnings!!
Love and lots of snowy hugs from
Your old friend,
Winter xxxxooo
