A Baby and A Tree
Long ago, a baby was sent
From far away, this baby was meant
As the greatest gift to the world.
And wise men journeyed from afar,
Following a distant star,
With Frankincense, myrrh and gold.
Today, from Oslo comes a tree,
A gift, a pledge, a guarantee
Of friendship, love and peace.
And like that baby long ago,
This tree from Norway lets us know,
That one day, wars will cease.
Though no resounding church bells rang
That night, heavenly angels sang,
Proclaiming, ‘Peace on earth’,
And by this tree we think again
Of shepherds, angels, three wise men,
And remember the baby’s birth.
There’s excitement, anticipation,
As this present to the nation
Waits to be bathed in light.
And gasps of wonder, laughter, cheers,
Warm the chill December air,
At the glorious sight.
Let the brass band play, the children sing,
Carollers carol and church bells ring,
And as one community,
Give thanks for friendship, love and joy,
Celebrate the tree and the baby boy,
And our two nations’ unity.
