Memorial Day is more than a long weekend or the beginning of summer — it is a day filled with emotion, respect, and pride. It honors those who gave their lives defending the values of liberty and justice.

Every year, my family visits the local veterans’ memorial. We stand silently as the flag is raised and the national anthem is played. The sound of the trumpet playing “Taps” fills the air, and it always makes me think about how much these soldiers gave up for us.

Memorial Day teaches us to be thankful and to never take our freedom for granted. It inspires us to live with courage, kindness, and love for our country — just like the heroes we honor.
