For every dog with open eyes,
For every pup beneath the skies,
For those with homes, for those who wait,
For every heart behind a gate.

May kindness find you, bowl and bed,
A gentle hand upon your head.
May humans learn what you show best:
That love is action, not a test.

On this Dog Day, we pause and see
The gift you are to humanity.
Not owned, not used — but standing tall,
A loyal friend, the best of all.
