While The Dark Scribbles Stars

hush now, be silent in the still-
when the dark hours
scribble stars upon our window pane,
ask me then if I am yet awake,
and if I answer not,
know that I am dreaming

perhaps of you, or,
some forgotten memory in youth

yet ask me again if I am sleeping
and if I answer not,
know that I am dreaming

and in those late hours when
darkness wraps us 'round-
whisper softly while I sleep:
' I love you dear '
and know that I am dreaming
