~where The Polar Winds Blow
~ Where The Polar Winds Blow
‘Way down south where the polar winds blow,
There live the penguins, or didn’t you know?
‘Way up north in the snowdrifts deep,
That’s the place where the polar bears sleep.
They both like the cold, and they like the snow,
And they romp through the blizzards when the polar winds blow,
When the polar winds blow,
When the polar winds blow,
O, they romp through the blizzards when the polar winds blow.
O, the polar bear sits on top of the world
Throwing fish to his polar bear girl.
They slide down the drifts in their polar bear skin,
Climb to the top and try it again.
They both like the cold, and they like the snow
And they romp through the blizzards when the polar winds blow.
When the polar winds blow,
When the polar winds blow,
O, they romp through the blizzards when the polar winds blow.
At the bottom of the world, all dressed in style,
The penguins march in single file,
Up the snowdrifts and down again,
Wearing feathers instead of skin.
For they all like the cold, and they like the snow,
And they romp through the blizzards when the polar winds blow,
When the polar winds blow,
When the polar winds blow,
O, they romp through the blizzards when the polar winds blow.
The Lord made the birds and the polar bear,
One with feathers and the other with hair;
And He said, “These two are real cute tricks.
Where, in the world, will you take your pick? ”
Now they both liked the cold, and they liked the snow,
So they both chose a country where the polar winds blow,
Where the polar winds blow,
Where the polar winds blow,
O, they both chose a country where the polar winds blow.
The polar bear said, “I don’t see why
We both can’t live under polar sky.
I think this chick is a real sweet dish
And I may get tired of eating fish.
We both like the cold, and we both like snow,
And we’ll really snuggle up when the polar winds blow,
When the polar winds blow,
When the polar winds blow,
O, we’ll really snuggle up when the polar winds blow.
The penguin said, “Don’t think me a fool
Because you know that I like it cool.
Give me a land where there’s plenty of snow
But, please, don’t let that polar bear know.
We like it cold, and we like the snow,
But we’ll soon be extinct where the polar bears go,
Where the polar bears go,
Where the polar bears go,
O, we’ll soon be extinct where the polar bears go.
The Lord said, “I’ve made the world in pairs.
There’s a polar cap for birds and one for bears.
They’re situated far apart,
And I won’t even give the bears a chart.
You’ll both have plenty of cold and snow
To romp through the blizzards when the polar winds blow.”
When the polar winds blow,
When the polar winds blow,
O, they romp through the blizzards when the polar winds blow.
This was written as a class demonstration intending to show that both poles were cold. Written in the same style as Shel Silverstein’s The Unicorn Song, which was sung by the Irish Rovers. (One May Remember back in the 1960s)
