Camping

. Camping

When day is done and I am tired
And grown-ups sit out by the fire;
For they have said that I must go,
Snuggled in each hand and toe,
To my bed where I must wait,
Though it’s not so very late.
To hear the grown-up’s murmuring voice
Telling secrets by the choice
Of “he” or “she” instead of names
(For I have learned these grown-up games) :
And many a crumb of gossip here
Falls upon my drowsy ear.
Stars are winking in the sky,
Slyly telling me that I
Must n’er repeat those grown-up words,
Else they will know that I have heard.
