A Dollar For A Smile...(Simplex Verse }

The below work was recently studied
by students at a local high school
near me, as an example of how poetry
can work without ornate banter and
complex requirement.Believe it or not
tho' I admit this is not my natural
style, it was fun, and I think it's
pretty well written, so there! LoL!

Can you spare me a dollar, babe,
she asked with warm gentle smile.
But I'd been reared to turn away
when such encounters came my way,
was told that handouts only hurt
peoples chance at honest work.

Decision time, what should I do,
It's not a crime to help a soul.
I heard a voice, 'It could be you
someday if your out in the cold'.

I stopped and turned my face to her
That gentle smile still there,
I answered her by saying, 'Sure'
And that smile grew wide, I swear!

Yes, today we must be confident
as societies rules have changed;
there are many a coat-tailers bent
on raining on others parades.

Yet, sometimes it just seems right
to lend a hand every now 'n awhile;
one day this could be 'YOUR' life
garnering a dollar for a smile.
