A Soldier's Christmas Promise To His Daughter

Daddy, must you go to war?
I'll be back before you know it, hun,
Just in time for Christmas cheer.

And, so, came the twenty-third,
of December and her Father's word.

He came home, with showers of medals,
in a flag draped box of metal;

was buried beneath cold dirt
on December twenty-third.

War is Hell, War takes lives
No exceptions for Christmastime.
