War Tales

He stood with his starched collar and he preached
this war is mankind's history's profound
and holy duty, never mind the many bleached
and brittle bones that cover here the battleground.
A private stood and raised a shaky voice:
' Lieutenant, should we mourn the many dead? '
The answer was, of course, 'you men have once been boys',
and then he shot the little soldier in the head.
